Free At Last! Free At Last! Thank God Almighty, The White Girl’s Free At Last!
General News
BAGHDAD, Iraq - American reporter Jill Carroll, who was kidnapped three months ago in a bloody ambush that killed her translator and later appeared in videotapes begging for her life, was released Thursday, telling the world that she was “just happy to be free.”
“I just want to get the fuck out of Iraq," Carroll, who wore a headscarf, told Baghdad Television.
Carroll said she was treated well but was never told why she was kidnapped.
“I was treated well, but I don’t know why I was kidnapped,” Carroll said. “They never hit me. They never said they would hit me. I mean, they made me suck a little dick and do some cooking, but no abuse.”
Upon hearing this, an unknown Arab man at the press conference yelled out "Bitch, the kidnapped you because you’re American! Why the hell do you think they kidnapped you? You’re not fooling anyone with the outfits, honky. We know you’re white!"

Carroll was wearing an light green Islamic headscarf, a gray Arabic robe, a tattoo on her neck that read "Ahmed’s bitch" in script, and a pair of fake Adidas with 4 stripes on the side. Other than the fashion faux paus and the amateur jailhouse tattoo, she looked well. Carroll said she was kept in a comfortable room and could wash easily but she was basically on house arrest. She held down the living room for the Islamic extremist group who abducted her.
Police Lt. Col. Falah al-Mohammedawi said Carroll, 28, was handed over to the Iraqi Islamic Party office in Amiriya, western Baghdad, by an unknown group after they demanded that she give them money for gas. She was later turned over to the Americans and was believed to be in the heavily fortified Green Zone, he said.
Carroll’s family said they were elated at news of her release. Her father, Jim, said at his house in Chapel Hill, N.C., that he was waiting to see if Southwest Airlines has flights to Iraq before making further travel plans to reunite with her.
“Obviously, we are thrilled and relieved that she has been released,” he said on the porch of his home. “We want to thank all that have supported and prayed for her. We want to especially thank The Christian Science Monitor, who did so much work to keep her image alive in Iraq. I also want to thank my nigga LeRon over at Wal Mart. Good looking out on the winshield wiper blades. They did the trick. I also want to shout out the homey Ernest over in Accounts Recievable. That’s my boy right there. Oh yeah, my wife, for letting me ease her tension in all sorts of ways we never did before. Don’t worry about your butthole, baby. The soreness will go away eventually. MURRAY! I’M ON TV NIGGA! THEY TALKIN’ BOUT PUTTING ME ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA! YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SIDE PUSSY I’M GONNA GET AFTER THIS?!”
Held for nearly 3 months
Carroll, a freelance reporter for the Christian Science Monitor and other publications, was kidnapped on Jan. 7, in Baghdad’s western Adil neighborhood while going to interview Sunni Arab politician Adnan al-Dulaimi. Her translator, Allan Enwiyah, was killed in the attack while trying to get some woman with a scarf on her face’s phone number about 300 yards from al-Dulaimi’s office. His last words were "You see that robe she had on? That girl had a phatty underneath all those hot ass black scarves and drapes!"
Her captors, calling themselves the Revenge Brigades, had demanded the release of all women detainees in Iraq by Feb. 26 and said Carroll would be killed if that didn’t happen. The date came and went with no word about her welfare. Once they realized that they did not have enough bargaining chips to even be allowed to sit at that table, they decided to just release Carrol to the authorities.
In the American Journal Review last year, Carroll wrote that she moved to Jordan in late 2002, six months before the war started, “to learn as much about the region as possible before the fighting began.”
“There was bound to be plenty of people getting blown up, and I wanted to avoid being an easy target. Go figure.
Carroll has had work from Iraq published in the Monitor, AJR, U.S. News & World Report, an Italian news wire and other publications. She has been interviewed often on National Public Radio.
Carroll is the fourth Western hostage to be freed in eight days. On March 23, U.S. and British soldiers, acting on intelligence gained from a detainee, freed Briton Norman Kember, 74, and Canadians James Loney, 41, and Harmeet Singh Sooden, 32, from a house west of Baghdad. I guess the captors have come to the realization that George Bush truly does not give a damn about people’s lives over there and will not listen to your concerns, no matter how many people you behead on videotape. Ah well. Tough titties. It’s hard out here on a terrorist. Get a new hustle.
