Usher “Burns” Evacuees
Entertainment
Usher wants to be startin’ something good this fall. The R&B skinnyboy announced Thursday he will headline a benefit concert, Project Restart, in his native Atlanta to aid those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
“When I thought about what I could do to help, I decided that I wanted to do something direct and personal for the evacuees,” he said in statement.
One would think that Usher would donate all proceedings of the concert profits towards housing or other necessities that are in dire need, but alas, that is not the solution. Instead, Usher has decided to give evacuees his music. Usher will admit free of charge around 5,000 displaced Gulf Coast residents currently living in the greater Atlanta area. The concert is set to take place Oct. 9 at the city’s Phillips Arena. While we are all feeling quite generous towards the necessity to rebuild and assist in restructuring the devastation Katrina has caused, We do wonder exactly how a free concert will assist displaced evacuees. Hmmmmmmmmmm.
“This isn’t just another concert to benefit the victims,” says Usher. “This is a movement to uplift the survivors and give them hope.” Yea. let’s hope that Usher can not buy 3 chincilla fur coats this winter and donate those funds towards housing assistance. Keep it real yo.
